A poem about my experience in Puerto Rico

The first plane ride to the exotic place

Was terrifying 

The first step on the island

Was exasperating

The homeless animals running the streets

Were depressing

The cheerful chirping birds and lizards

Were uplifting 

The hike up El Yunque

Was exhausting

The view at the top

Was breath taking 

The journey through the caverns

Was beautiful

The swim through the bio-luminescent bay 

Was illuminating 

The carribean waters

Were clear

The biting mosquitos

Were unforgiving 

The plane ride home

Was shaky

The first step home

Was relieving

I long list of statements is just another list poem in prose set in some stanzas. I was really looking forward to learning about Costa Rica and its people, sadly I was not enthralled by your work.

I lost my footing on the fourth and fifth stanza - expecting a bad experience then a compensatory good experience that made the bad worth the effort as in the previous verses and (kind of) in the last Haley. And I would have continued with using adjectives ending with 'ing', throughout.
But overall I enjoyed the 'trip' - it was educational and gave me a sense of your (personal) time spent in Puerto Rico which is much more engaging than a diary of events type piece.

I love it. It definitely takes the reader through a quick *yet thorough* trip. I'm amazed at how clear and descriptive you could be with only a few words.
By the way, I also loved it because that's where I was born and grew up :-)
