Underneath the Magnolia tree
It’s scent rippling through me Makes me want to kiss the buds and throw my arms into the branches Thinking about the girl i love She reminds me of this tree I never noticed it before, never knew it I find solace in the tree, taking the buds and mixing it into a batter The cookies gingery and filled with love Even though this tree makes me feel sad, i feel love for her and that’s enough I feel sad and happy and lovesick and sweet The magnolias are beautiful White and pink The girl i love’s favorite colors Though I’d argue that she looks best in black Majestic and when she smiles, i feel that magnolia bud opening And my love bursting through Happy and sad with rain and dew and love Pink and white magnolias I hug the branches, kiss the open flowers And think of her, crystals staining my cheeks and an image of her Running in front of me, saying my true name, laughing and almond shaped eyes half crescent closed Wearing a summery flowing white dress, holding my hand, Tugging me toward her, Toward a field of magnolia trees and emerald grass and gold dandelions…. Suddenly I am sent back to the magnolia tree, hug it’s branches and cry, laugh and smile with love bursting from me like an open flower
