Small piece of a book i am writing, where a demon character has been told to kill their brother by their summoner, who they should protect. He is debating whether or not to kill himself instead.

Could he do it?

Could he kill his age old friend?

Did he have the heart to take his own brother's life?

[name undecided] glared dejectedly at the murky canal water, tainted by blood and soil from the overworked townspeople. People he had been responsible for. People he had sworn to protect. Sworn to protect against the actions of a tyrannical ruler gone mad with power.

Yet, here he sits, about to burn away his sins, as a failure of a man unable to help, unable to succeed in anything he does.What could he do? Kill his friend or betray his summoner. What should he do? Kill his friend or betray his summoner.
