If You Could Only Smile

A poem depicting pointless love.

If you could only smile,

that would make my hour.

If you could only laugh,

that would make my day.

If you could be my acquaintance,

that would make my week.

If you could be my friend,

that would make my month.

If you could be my best friend,

that would make my year.

If you could be my love,

that would make my decade.

If you could stay with me forever,

that would make my life.

But that will never happen.

Still, if you would only smile.

The way you put the theme...and the usage of time within each line and the repetition works here...of course...this work was done at a younger age...the innocence displays in the way this goes from stanza to stanza...the finality is still just a smile...all other meaning is irrelevant...
