Mind Games

Mind Games

A Poem by Casey

Mind Games
She looks in the mirror
but sees only a
water colored reflection

The mind can't cope to think
her once proud self respect
has been ripped from her
like flesh from a dead animal

To fathom beauty in her image
would only be a farce
a practical joke
because she knows everyone is laughing

As fear gathers in her mind
like an unwanted itch
she frantically tries to escape
ripping and clawing at the inside of her mind
telling herself she's not worthy

Her thoughts begin to swirl together
like some psychedelic painting
as she grips her hair so tight
knuckles turn white

She yearns to be free from the shadowed depths of her mind
and just before being pushed to the limit by the voices
the chaos stops
leaving her to wonder why she can't love herself
