The Unpalatable Andy Warhol

The Unpalatable Andy Warhol

A Poem by Gee
"

Funny what irritates eh ???

"
It wasn't the poor service
or warm wine served in lipstick stained glasses,
that was annoying but acceptable, kinda.
Nor was it the overly al dente veg
served in chipped dishes,
that I get at home, am used to, although not fond of.
The couple to my left that bickered constantly,
voices rising with each glass added to their bill
were irksome, tiring even,
but they were paying for the privilege, so...
No, It was none of these.
It was actually the Andy Wahol esque artwork
directly over my wife's right shoulder,
the colours clashing badly with her over priced,
multi coloured chiffon blouse,
although the picture itself not the cause of my growing annoyance.
No, it was the fact that this artwork was hung,
fixed, out of level.
Why ?
Surely to God if I could see this the staff could,
yet there it was,
slightly askew and ruining my meal.

warm wine served in lipstick stained glasses

i think i would just complain and make them get a fresh pair of glasses hehe i cant stand the stains on glasses...

mmm i liked how the painting gets the credit for spoiling the evening..

i don't have that much of issue with arrangements and stuff thankfully...but obviously we would prefer a nice evening if we are out to enjoy one..

nicely done :)

Thank you..
This is one of your best that I've read lately! This is so funny & true-to-life for us OCD freaks. I love the way it gradually builds to this climax by saying what ISN'T the problem, then finally, the problem itself seems laughably petty but totally understandable! Great imagination & vivid details! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you kindly ma'am, glad you enjoyed
I cannot review this poem, because I don't understand most pieces of poetry. But this piece made me smile. Everything over priced, ambience sucked, loud annoying people and the main problem here, an unlevelled painting by Andy Warhol. Thanks for the afternoon smile.

Brilliantly in the moment poem. I really like this kind of observational/musing poetry, more relevant and much truer to life than many a long worked on epic ode.

Oh, and I readily admit to straightening pictures hung on walls; can't help myself; though I have managed to train myself out of avoiding cracks in the pavement. :))

Beccy.

This was an example when a bothersome little detail, grew and grew in size, till it ruined the entire event that was meant to be enjoyed. Perhaps OCD, yet we all have these stray moments. So I'd attribute it more to the state of mind at that time. Its ok as long as it doesn't become a frequent nuisance.

Enjoyed and appreciated a lot!

Appreciated very much. My pleasure!
For some reason this reminded me of a mental institution I used to work at. Or maybe I was a patient. . . sometimes I forget what the difference was. By the way, I like cats. And I also like this poem, quite a bit. Well done Gee unit. You are a pleasure to read.

Cheers....
You did a delightful job of building the rational for disgust, and the showing us how OCD can turn all the things we think we know on its head.

Nicely done.

*Welcome to "Pure Rhymes" Thanks for joining, great to have you...!*

Oh wow... The cynical edge of the viewer, seen by his cutting thoughts about everything ranging from the art, to his wives blouse... Finally wrapping it all up with the fact that NONE of these terribly trite annoyances can ever live up to the real atrocity... The damn non-symmetrical bullshit of the frame... OCD, OcD, oCd...

Oh, I wasn't expecting that ending. I had to smile. My dear old Dad could not stand crooked pictures either.
Enjoyed it.
