Witches, bunions, boys and cats

Witches, bunions, boys and cats

A Poem by Gee
"

Seeing is believing...

"
Her besom powered by nowt but spells
crossed the sky on all hallows eve,
a kid with his mum mid trick or treat
rubbed his eyes as he didn't believe.
Cos mum had always said to him
that witches were not of this life,
even though he'd heard his dad more than once
say he'd got one for a wife.

So he tugged the sleeve of his mother's coat
said " mum there's a witch up there,
on a brush with a cat wearing a pointy hat
and flames in her jet black hair"
The mother looked to the jaundiced moon
scoured the star lit sky,
looked down at the incredulous face of her son
said to him in low tones with a sigh.

" I've told you before and I'll tell you again
there is no such thing as a witch,
or wizards and dragons, monsters and ghouls
your minds playing games, it's a glitch "
But as these words fell from her lips
and very much to her surprise,
a witch with a cat in a pointy hat
appeared like magic before her eyes..

Well, the mother recoiled, peed her pants
screamed at the top of her voice,
the witch cackled loudly, then raspily said,
" trick or treat mum, what's your choice.
If you ask for a trick I'll strike you dumb,
or dumber as may be the case,
but a treat if you ask may salvage your night
and in front of your boy save face"

She winked at the boy and her cat in a hat
to show she was messing around,
as the mother prayed loudly, her first ever time,
curled up in a ball on the ground.
She muttered and stuttered then quietly sobbed
" If you please I'll have me a treat"
and with that in a jiffy, down in her shoes
two bunions disappeared from her feet..

And then in a flash the witch was gone
away on her brush with the cat,
but not before giving to the grinning boy
a black pointy, halloween hat.
And this he wears each all hallows eve
and sometimes when visiting mum,
in the nut house for mothers with bunion less feet
and fears that have stricken them dumb.

You might need a couple of reads to hit the flow as there is no syllable count just, well, nothing :)))

Well, having known a witch or three, I can say I loved this! Should be mandatory reading for any coven!

I think this is simply crying out to be read more than just the once.. you have crammed so much in, yet despite this, it feels comfortable and far from cramped.. For some reason, Dr. Seuss crept into my mind.. I'm sure would appeal to kids, adults and anyone else out there..... thoroughly enjoyed N

' " I've told you before and I'll tell you again - there is no such thing as a witch, - or wizards and dragons, monsters and ghouls = your minds playing games, it's a glitch " How's that for commonsensible meter - brilliant stuff..

Had to let this go til today. Sooo i read the fun, inspiration and skill of your Halloween production now.. and worth every penny of the wait! My impression is that you really enjoyed writing this tale.. that it gripped you by the collar, sat you down and waved its warped magic over you. And, Gee it worked... Fun, fear, bunnnyins and all! Brilliant, says she, going back to the oven, laughing!!

The flow was fine for me. This is worth nothing less than 100. I'm sure it took you a while to complete this and I'm thankful to have read it. Excellent writing, Gee. :))))

Thanks Crowley
What a fun packed, riveting drama! The rhyming is on spot and just adds to the flow. The disappearance of the bunions was delightful and read like the ultimate treat! I'm proud, there was a handsome, sooty black cat in the poem too. All in all, this was a treat to read, Mr. Gee.

You are most welcome! If Halloween isn't over then Happy Halloween to you :)))
OMG, that’s amazing!!! Every stanza hits the mark, closing the gate and driving the story forward. I’d still be giggling now if I hadn’t settled down to write this review. :):).

A real shame, what happened to the mum. :):)
