Witches, bunions, boys and cats

Witches, bunions, boys and cats

A Poem by Gee
"

Seeing is believing...

"
Her besom powered by nowt but spells
crossed the sky on all hallows eve,
a kid with his mum mid trick or treat
rubbed his eyes as he didn't believe.
Cos mum had always said to him
that witches were not of this life,
even though he'd heard his dad more than once
say he'd got one for a wife.

So he tugged the sleeve of his mother's coat
said " mum there's a witch up there,
on a brush with a cat wearing a pointy hat
and flames in her jet black hair"
The mother looked to the jaundiced moon
scoured the star lit sky,
looked down at the incredulous face of her son
said to him in low tones with a sigh.

" I've told you before and I'll tell you again
there is no such thing as a witch,
or wizards and dragons, monsters and ghouls
your minds playing games, it's a glitch "
But as these words fell from her lips
and very much to her surprise,
a witch with a cat in a pointy hat
appeared like magic before her eyes..

Well, the mother recoiled, peed her pants
screamed at the top of her voice,
the witch cackled loudly, then raspily said,
" trick or treat mum, what's your choice.
If you ask for a trick I'll strike you dumb,
or dumber as may be the case,
but a treat if you ask may salvage your night
and in front of your boy save face"

She winked at the boy and her cat in a hat
to show she was messing around,
as the mother prayed loudly, her first ever time,
curled up in a ball on the ground.
She muttered and stuttered then quietly sobbed
" If you please I'll have me a treat"
and with that in a jiffy, down in her shoes
two bunions disappeared from her feet..

And then in a flash the witch was gone
away on her brush with the cat,
but not before giving to the grinning boy
a black pointy, halloween hat.
And this he wears each all hallows eve
and sometimes when visiting mum,
in the nut house for mothers with bunion less feet
and fears that have stricken them dumb.

This is fun & oh-so-witty in a thousand tiny spots of brilliance! I just can't believe how much you packed into this tale with great rhyme & rhythm, delivering a perfectly compelling pace of storytelling. You can't blame me for this, becuz I simply couldn't come up with anything like this! I'm very envious! I'm so glad I clicked on this as my first delight of the day . . . with a title like that, how could I NOT click!?!?! I love that you've caught the Halloween bug (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
