It rained today

It rained today

A Poem by Gee
"

How deep is your love

"
The rain came today, heavy, persistent,
filling the air with the sweet smell of parched earth.
I took deep breaths, long, slow deep breaths,
my face turned to the heavens, eyes closed,
allowing raindrops to wash over my sun dried skin.
It filled the age chiseled cracks and creases,
ran through salt and pepper stubble
before dripping from a jaw line that refuses to acknowledge the onset of age.
I smiled to myself, thought of mum and
how she always commented on our "good genes"
age defying genes she said, but mums do don't they.
In her mind I was faultless, could do no wrong,
and if I did, well, she never let on verbally
but was unable to disguise the truth in her eyes.

She has been gone 14 months now and not a day passes
where she isn't in my thoughts,
these sometimes bringing smiles, other times tears,
and of late frustration.
Frustration brought on by my inability
to clearly recall her face, her features, smile...
It's as if I'm forgetting her, as if my love wasn't deep seated enough
to carry her with me through the rest of my life,
as her love carried me through mine, and this saddens me greatly,
has tears welling...

It rained today, raindrops washing my tears through salt and pepper stubble.

It's a heartfelt piece, dear Gee. Needs no tweaking. Your emotion shines through those raindrops and makes your readers feel your sense of loss. A sign of great poetry. Words like these just prove that your Mum is always in your mind and in your fingertips and on the page. In that regard you will never forget who she was. A beautiful write. Visually stunning and very touching.

Thank you :))
dearest Gee... Mothers always had that “twinkle” in their eye. When their Spirit leaves to a higher plane... we feel their Presence in a hundred or more ways... in the song of birds...
the scent of roses. Nothing can compare to her sighs ... now we must carry on to share with others the blessings of her smile. Lovely poem. gently, Pat

Thank You Patricia
You know I'm going to love this descriptive poem but as I live in the Highlands of Scotland I don't understand it. The first part at least the second I understand all to well and that is my primary reason for, (can I say) like this. Although that is not perhaps the right terminology.
As a completely iappropriate aside I saw one line and remembered a recent sho of a right wing rally somewhere were one good ol boy was holding up a sign saying I am better I've got superior jeans.
Sorry I shouldn't be flippant in a review of the heart reaching write.

Ouch, my mother lives but with stage 4 cancer, and the thought of forgetting her face hurts so much. But I know it's reality. Thank you for putting this into words.

WOW! WOW! And WOW! This is by far the best of your "Mom" series & you've already penned some very strong unforgettable sentiments on this topic. In complete contrast to your own experience, my Mom died a year ago May & I still have not cried one single tear. I thought by now I might have had some kind of realization, as you express in this poem, about how she (and most moms) hold onto each kid's essence forever, so why can't we return the favor of our own attention? Your words are so forthright & poignant, about how she's slipping away, the details of how it happens, how it feels. This is priceless, as far as showing what it means to be human. I love how your poem starts in a different place & slowly edges over to this topic that's been haunting you all this time. I love how you aren't one bit shy about everything you're going thru . . . your revelations are a gift to the rest of us, especially for those who haven't had the experience of losing a Mom that's sorely missed (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
