Quiet moments

Quiet moments

A Poem by Gee
"

Memories

"
It is a quiet place, special, a place kept secret, not shared,
and it will be this way forever perhaps
as I feel not the need to burden others with my thoughts, feelings.
With the passing of time and my "healing"
visits here are becoming less frequent,
not because I care, love any less
but more so because the pain has subsided,
eased to the point where all memories are now smiles,
smiles that are seldom, if ever, accompanied by tears.
And now, unlike when she was living,
when routine was the bedrock of her life
I need not phone in advance to make a "date"
I can turn up any time, unannounced,
just drop in to sit, look, remember...

"I'll come back as a Robin" she used to say,
"to keep an eye, make sure you are behaving"
then she would laugh, sip her tea.
Tears came easily with the first Robin sighted
and the second, third, but they are now met with a smile
and visions of her sitting, hunched, in her favourite chair,
a part started crossword on her lap
the words within looking as if written mid earthquake,
each letter painstakingly, shakily written, some not finished...

I smile as I write this, bid her goodbye,
then leave until the next time...

a part started crossword on her lap
the words within looking as if written mid earthquake,

....Touched such a chord in me. Loving, living laughing one day...gone the next...

Mothers never leave and this poem is such a testimony of their presence in our lives always. No appointments needed with them...

No words to express how profoundly I felt what you conveyed...

Yes, you'll always have the memories, Gee, and those memories are priceless and treasured forever. As you have written, time heals and the tears are replaced by smiles and in your quiet moments she is there right with you, taunting you cheekily from your memories. I am sure it makes your quiet moments just that little bit more valuable than they used to be. It's a lovely, heartfelt poem you have written here. Incredibly touching. I hope all is well and you are in a much happier place nowadays, despite the horrors of covid there. :)))

Beautiful and more, dear friend. Gee, that robin has a billion and more siblings. They flit and flutter, sing and whisper about special Places, cherishing memories. They always will, whatever. I know that for sure, personally. Sigh.

Wishing you and your darlings a sweet and safe Sunday.

Thank you EmmaJ.
Hope you are well, sleeping and keeping safe :)
Tears rolled down my cheeks as I read this, Gee. I've been thinking about my deceased great-grandmother all day and for some reason, this poem reminds me of her. I have no clue why, I was only three-years-old when she died (and I'm about to be 18 this summer). I don't remember anything at all about her, just that she was crazy about me because I was her first great-granddaughter. Maybe somewhere in the back of my mind lays a sleeping memory that I sat in her lap while she did a crossword puzzle when I was a little girl. I loved this poem and the fact that it brought tears to my eyes. Tyfs, friend. :) 100/100

Thank you Nix, glad you enjoyed.
As others have said, this is heart-wrenchingly beautiful. I had to go back and reread it just to absorb every word you wrote. It evokes so much pain and yet also a nuance of hope and recovery. You describe the ability to convalesce so beautifully. I find There is so much potential in tragedy when it comes to writing. It brings the reader to a personal and hauntingly familiar level of understanding. Thank you for sharing.
