Chinese Lanterns

Chinese Lanterns

A Poem by Gee
"

Just simple words. Final wishes

"
As is always there will be the three of us
but an invitation to those that we love will hopefully
swell numbers into double figures.
Those that accept, come, must do so dressed in bright, pastel colours
bringing with them only smiles, plastic "glasses"
and something suitably bubbly to make a toast.

And then my final wish...

As dusk dims the light of day and the sun slides West
please lay me gently into paper baskets,
place upon me the small, white, candles
that will guide my way to the heavens and beyond,
then, without fuss or fanfare, light, release, smile,
before breaking the still night silence with popping corks
as I become one with the stars above...

dear Gee... I appreciate the essence of your poem.
Chinese Lanterns are a beautiful Eulogy... and popping the Cork for a Life well lived. There are many ways to be sent to the Great Beyond. Our Spirit does live on and there is a Mystery that will be revealed as we pass over to Glory.
Thanks for sharing your words. It is important to Believe.
tenderly, Pat

You're welcome :)
That is such a you poem! Been a while, sir.. but you come up with something like the abov e, the day after your BIRTHDAY when we should all be sitting by the firepit, sipping, singing and.. whatever else comes to mind.

Seriously, your words ring the bells, Gee and put as seriously as one can be, corks popping and all. Valhalla here I come !

Nothing like planning ahead. We have here instructions for an unusual funeral, a rather nice departure from the way death is usually ritualized. The speaker wants to be placed on Chinese lanterns and then released to the heavens, followed by a toast. Much preferable, I must say, to an open coffin and a wax doll corpse. Still, I think I'll stick with cremation. Much less chance of something going wrong and spoiling the mood.

Proper fitting way to celebrate a life and its joys that brought so many smiles, rather than the weight of solemnity. I think you have given us all an idea here, to bring colour and fond memories into such a sombre goodbye.
Hope it won't be for a while yet and plenty more memories later.

Hi Lorry, hope you have been keeping safe and well.
Thanks for having a read and commenting
What a perfect way for your ashes to be scattered. So visual is this little poem. I love Chinese Lanterns, and I have two unused in my sideboard. This is a sad little poem acting as a reminder that in current times, so few mourners are allowed at funerals. Scattering of ashes, only for our nearest and dearest. Gee you have been unusually quiet lately. Hope it's because you are busy my friend and nothing else. A good morning to you and take care. So welcome is a new post from you.
