“A Star in the Dark”

Darkness and despair fill your heart,
Tearing you apart.
You feel the world is against you,
Perhaps…better off without you.
You want it to end but,
Will your [will] bend?
Thoughts of suicide,
Hit like a tide,
Hit your mind’s eye.

Your thoughts have brought these feelings,
Your thoughts keep you from seeing [what’s true]
Let darkness and despair life away,
Like a bubble floating away.

You are part of a bigger picture,
This is true.
You have friends and family,
That deeply love you.

The darkness can blind us but,
We need not let it bind us.
This I must confess but,
Death is but a mess.

Without you,
Our world would turn blue.
There will never be another you,
My heart speaks true.
A star exploded,
This is [also] true.
Stardust came together to form you.
I must confess this,
You are just as precious.
Though your thoughts are dark,
A journey you must embark.

You are a star,
You have come so far.
You are a bright light,
With a hidden might.
You must fight to see the light.
You must fight for your life.
You must become the light.

Martin
This is a poem I wrote about depression and suicide. I, myself, am a suicide survivor. I say survivor because, had I not failed I would not be here today writing this, I would be dead. When you are deep in depression, it feels nearly impossible to pull yourself out, nothing seems to make you happy and you desperately want to give up. You feel alone and isolated, you feel like no one cares about you even though many may care about you. Sometimes you even dismiss positive thoughts immediately. Not only am I a survivor but, I have also dealt with friends that are gone because of suicide. I've seen the effects first hand, the pain and sadness loved ones go through, each day feeling like a nightmare that you can't wake up from. Everyday expecting to hear from your loved one only to remember immediately that they are gone. The fact is, we are all special and unique, our lives are interwoven together in the tapestry of life. You may not realize it but, you make a difference in the lives of everyone around you, you make an impact. You are the only you and there will never be another, each one of us is important, each one of us add to the tapestry of life making it that much more amazing. If you are depressed, if you are contemplating suicide then I hope this poem helps you and makes you reconsider, makes you realize what a star you are in this world. *I dedicate this poem to all the victims of suicide, may they rest in piece. I also dedicate this poem to all the suicide survivors like me and to the friends and family around the global that has lost a love done to suicide*
