A Courageous King

A Courageous King

A Poem by R. J. North

God it's no secret that I've got a sinner's heart
But Lord make me new and show me where to start
Romans 12:2 says be transformed by renewing my mind
That's impossible to do when I'm constantly looking behind
I won't say that I miss it but Lord it was comfortable
And denying the flesh I'm just not sure that I'm able
God this life I'm living is lonely
And walking this path alone I can't take
Craving familiarity and comfort I'm susceptible to making mistakes
Though time and time again I fall
In every instance you prop me back atop the wall
I say my prayers and dwell in your word
Ability and endurance to stay on the straight and narrow you've spurred

I'm proud to be the daughter of a courageous king
Your glory and your praises forever will I sing
God I am eternally grateful because your grace on me you poured
And now like Psalms 37:4 I delight myself in the Lord
You called me by name
And gave me claim to a different sort of fame
I know I'll never be prefect
Because we all fall short of the glory of God
But in you I will always find comfort
The stronghold for my life, my staff, and my rod
