A nut with a gun

A nut with a gun

A Poem by Relic

There's urgent breaking news online...
The shooter's still about.
Each time I see the tally climb
My faith converts to doubt.
~
There's blood inside the church's door...
I'm guessing I should run?
I'm not one into blood and gore,
My brain is going numb.
~
Cover me, I need some bread,
I'll keep my eyes both peeled.
If you should hear lead bullets spread
Consider our fate sealed.
~
Nineteen kids were killed today,
Another nut got pissed.
It shouldn't take a gun to say
Class is now dismissed.
~
We're sitting ducks inside a cage
In some sick shooters war.
Dig another grave my friend,
Tomorrow, there'll be more.

Where will it be next? A train? Another school? Another supermarket? Another church? When's the next time we'll ask - why?

Well rhymed sad tale. More homes are missing some form of religion, good parental guidance and representation and accountability. Even the schools don't teach how to be a good person and care for our neighbors. Well done!

Completely agree!
19 empty cereal bowls is the strongest image coming out of this horrific turn of events. Your poem has given voice 19 times over. And the beginnings of finding out why are following in its wake. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the comment, Frederick.
Both well rhymed and hard hitting, R. I have been thinking of some of the places I frequent, such as supermarkets. If some butcher with an AR-15 cut loose in one of those places, it would turn into a slaughterhouse. And at this point, I don't know how to prevent something like that from happening.

Evil seems to be growing in the hearts of the broken. Instead of turning for guidance or love they choose hate most foul.

It's nice to see you back in the cafe or at least sitting in my section.
What happened to our world? When did we stop trusting ourselves and others, when did guns become the problem, and not the people? I feel guns shouldn't have been the problem in the first place, what is going on in these people's minds to make them want to commit murder? It is horrifying, the shooting at the subway station in Buffalo, Texas elsmtnaey school shooting. It's all over the news, gun violence, PEOPLE violence is a spreading pandemic all on its own, what's the cure? Is there one? Your poem is truthful, sung with honesty

Unfortunately we do not have all the answers
Yeah, it's terrible. We don't have a gun problem. We have a narcissist problem. Everyone is convinced they are the god of their own world. That includes our politicians on both sides. Everyone around you is just expendable fodder. I was telling my 14 year old that I would never disrespect my elders when I was young. There was consequences. Are we too soft? How did we get this way? Was it T.V. or smartphones? I don't know the answer. Regardless, something needs to be done.

This poem is biting in it's form and truth. Your rhymes were on fire. Creativity in a social commentary is very welcome.. Great work. CD

No problem.
Not again I said when I heard on the radio this morning. The laws surrounding guns just aren't working. The loss of life is devastating.. Another tragedy. Your rhyming stanzas tell a shocking tale Tim. Penned with your usual flair.
