Bewildering World

Bewildering World

A Poem by Ian Caithness
"

This poem was inspired by Robert Frost's 'Road Not Taken' which was written to reflect life, paths and choices using cosmic and natural imagery. I have attempted to do the same in this poem. I hope you enjoy.

"

The path of darkness,
Trees of secrets,
Shadows hiding,
My mind dividing,
I walk alone,
This place I pray,
Will lead me to.

This bewildered world…

The gates are closing,
The world around me,
Closing in on me,
The words implicit,
Thoughts suggested,
What to do with it all?

This bewildered world…

The bewildered world of mine,
So full of secrets,
So full of dreams,
My sanctuary, and my planet,
Bewildered world,
So full of sentiment.

But what is this bewildered world?

A world, a woods?
A path, a road?
What is it true?
I cannot say,
It’s like a portal,
Like a conduit,
To the hopes and dreams,
Of one small boy.

I read this, and feel like there is hope inside the bewilderment...I feel the inner child that dreams of fairy-tale things being forced into a reality of societal structure. I feel the urge to pluck this child from such a nightmare, and free his soul back into the innocence and simplicity of all that a "child's eyes" can see...be it beauty or ugliness, a child sees truth. The over shadow of bewilderment feels like an acid rain storm, and while I read this, I begin to feel bewildered myself. You have expressed much in this write, and carry your "feeling" out to the reader very well.
