Hands

Hands

A Poem by Chloe

Her hand in yours

so small

protected by your strong grip

your strong hands

held her

You held her, held her

till the day that you decided to leave

you let her fall, let her fall

No other person,

no other event,

not even a reason

could explain why you left

Tears that she cried

as you comforted her

in your strong hands

tears that she cried

when your comedy

was unbearable

She cried, cried, cries

for the security of your strong hands

no hands does she hold

no love notes does she read

no voice of yours

sooths her to sleep,

to sleep...

none without your strong hands to cradle her

Your mind had fled;

forgot her love;

her small hands reached out to yours

you forgot what she

loved you for

The strong hands of yours

did not offer a goodbye embrace,

or a scribbled goodbye letter

the strong hands of yours

pointed in the opposite direction

The strong hands of yours

pulled the trigger

towards yourself

After it hit you

the bullet had backfired

your strong hands went limp

you let her slip, slip, slip

through your fingers

She fell, fell, falls

clings to every

smell, sound, song

of the strong hands that once held her

and promised to never let go.

This sounds like a father/daughter relationship gone bad. So sad. A heart moving write.

Broken promises are a b***h especially from someone that made you feel so safe at one time. Very touching piece. It flows very nicely!
