What Does A Memory Sound Like?

What Does A Memory Sound Like?

A Poem by Kimberly Miller

What Does A Memory Sound Like?

What does a memory sound like

Does it sound like the tinkle of a bell

Or the whispers of the wind through the trees

Does it sound like the mystery in a cats meow

Does it bring thoughts of long ago

To our hearts and mind alike

Or does it just dredge up

Those deep secrets we all hide

Does a memory sound like a baby's first cry

Or the twinkling tone in your mate's eye

Does it sound like a love's heartbeat

Or the whisp of a fluttering page

Does it bounce off walls and floors

Till it finds the person it looks for

Does it strike the person like a gunshot

Or touch them with a tender nap

Do memories sound like a sweet sing-song voice

Or maybe the creak in the floor

Does it vibrate like an instrument

Or dance like leaves on a fall day

Perhaps we may never know

What a memory sounds like

But I can tell you one thing

That there is always mystery behind the sound of a memory.

I love how you get people thinking about sounds and memories! It is so true that hearing different sounds can trigger memories, sometimes even memories that have been pushed aside and not even thought about in years! Great choice of wording in the poem, it really made it seem to come alive in my mind, it was very vivid and descriptive! Great job! Keep it up!

memories are all and more of the sights, the sounds you describe. They are what make a life, and without such we would be simply drifting through our three score year and ten.

A lovely poem, and I particularly enjoyed the line 'Does it sound like the mystery in a cats meow.' Very unique.

Beccy.

Very deep and interesting write. Since losing my husband, I find memories not only bounce off of the walls, they are in a song, a smell, a picture, a dream, etc..They are there and I pray that they stay with me. Valentine

This is a very interesting poem, I like how you tried to place a sound to a memory. You brought up many things that come into our minds throughout our lives, which is very interesting to me. I can picture these small clips in my mind which is very nice. I especially like the last line, "that there is always mystery behind the sound of a memory," it seems very thought provoking to me.

Good Job
