Why I'm Not Sleeping....

Why I'm Not Sleeping....

A Poem by Indigoshadows

The million words left unsaid.
The one life left unlived.
The hunger gnawing me inside out.
The parallel universe--
Taunting the edges of my vision.
Beckoning me during my waking hours
To breathe you in.
You.
The last dream I have before slumber
And the first alarming cry at midnight
As I reach out
To the ghost of you.
I lie awake
Enraptured in lies of another life--
More silky and seductive
Than the deep, dreamless sleep
That I call my own.
The sting of truth-
You were never really mine.
Destroying the dreams of day--
My only cure.

"Enraptured in lies of another life". Some loves die harder than others. The speaker has not been able to let the thing go. Perhaps time is the only cure here. Painful.
