True Love

True Love

A Poem by Mark
"

Have you fallen for an image you've created in your mind rather than the actual person you get to know later?

"
Poked through the veil,
there shines small glimpses
of who you are behind there,
like stars in a black sky.
I must allow my eyes
to grow accustomed
to the brilliance
behind the deep veil.
I must not allow my desire
to keep me blinded
to the reality,
the frailty, of you.
I will fall in love
with who you are,
not the you
I want to believe.

perfect; and yes, we create the image of who we want our love to be and we fall in love with the image- I love how your poem expresses the determination to see the brilliance behind the veil. excellent poem.

Thank you Mary
so perceptive..desire can blind a person to the reality of a person, and we do attribute some charactistics to someone that they don't actually possess. a very honest look at love. good work.

Yes, I have and I believe everyone will at one point in their lives. Sometimes we only see what we want to see and it can come back to bite us later. Great poem!

That it does. Anytime, dear. :)
To answer your question at the top, I have fallen in love with the imagine of love, does that make sense? And have wanted it to work so bad that I have willed the relationship to work... Well it never turned out good in the long run lol. But How can love work, if not for the love of the person of the person they are?
"I must not allow my desire
to keep me blinded"
I Think this is an important line here in the piece, desire can play tricks on our minds. desire / love a thin line - falling in love with whom they are, well said my friend.
Beautiful piece.

Yes, I wonder sometimes if other cultures confuse love and desire as often as we do? Thanks again Ka.. read more

So true. Is funny what we see before the brain finally defrags.

Much said in those little lines. Love the short verse. Excellent.

Very thoughtful, as I loved this poem. For me it has a true meaning, especially your ending says it all. I fully enjoyed this. Women need in my opinion a man who loves them for real. Thank you.

Thank you for reading E :)
I love how real this is. You're being practical and mature. It happens pretty often that we begin to fall without quite getting to know the person we're falling for, and once we do (get to know them, I mean), we tend to back off. Acceptance of this lover's true identity rarely happens. Which is why true love is so rare. I really like this perspective of yours. It's something unusual. You have given me a lot to think about :)
