Drunk

Drunk

A Poem by Intothemilkyway

I drink a bottle ,
One or two
Who's counting?
I pour out the drink
Into the glass
Once or twice
It's in a loop
Like Déjà vu
You'd ask,
But what is he drinking for?
You wouldn't imagine
That I'd be drunk
But not of alcohol
But of the memories passing me by
Each time they come around in my mind.

I try to drink memories away many times my dear friend. The drink wasn't strong enough.
"You wouldn't imagine

But not of alcohol
But of the memories passing me by
Each time they come around in my mind."
The above lines, I knew often. Those damn ghost of people can haunt us. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Thank you for reviewing my poem
Do we get drunk on positive thoughts or more likely negative ones, since negative thoughts generally pop up more in the mind? Mind you, sometimes being drunk puts everything into prospective for at least a while.

Interesting view. I like the way you see it.
Thank you for reviewing my poem.
I love how your poem seems to begin with the literal idea of drinking oneself into oblivion, but as your narrator slips into drunkenness your poem slips into a less literal idea of drunkenness, veering off into other ways we space out from life. As an old person, it's easy for me to space out without substances . . . living in the wilderness, I stare at all that's going on in nature & pretty soon I can't even remember what day it is or what I was intending to do! Thanks. Very appreciative of your review.
Ah! What a positive twist of being drunk on “the memories passing me by”.

Are they more positive than negative at this point?

Positive of course.

Glad to hear it! 🤗
Drink doesn't help erase memories. They have a habit of resurfacing. Too much drink just makes the natter a whole lot worse.

It's true Chris. Thanks for reviewing
Unfortunately, memories can't be drowned, only released. Insightful piece here.
