That Is Me

That Is Me

A Poem by Alm

There is nothing wrong

with me

I don’t need to take

a look at the mirror"

I am what I wanted to be

I am not ugly

I am not what I vowed

never to be

The mirror is shattered,

how can I see myself?

Those shards will bloody me,

oh, look, they already have.

The mirror is broken, it should

be thrown away.

What, you say?

The

mirror

isn’t

broken?

And that is me?

You have penned quite a marvelous verse here! I loved the last twist to your poem, it really hit me. Your second stanza was very good, I loved it, as I did with the entire poem. Very good job!!

`I am not what I vowed not to be`, great line. A dark twist to the end, I always enjoy such things.

Thank you! :)
At first glance, I half expected to view some poem about self actualization saying something like 'don't do that, you're beautiful!' (not that I have anything against it, I've just read a thousand too many poems alike to it), but I am indeed entertained by the concept you portray. Lovely twist to the poem, and I love, love, love the blood mirror part.

Thanks, Tai! I don't actually like blatant self-actualization poems. I would rather something like I.. read more
