You call yourself a superhero

You call yourself a superhero

A Poem by Island Hippy

hey batman,
why don't you come
to my side of the tracks?

my neighbour, puts --
needles in his arms.

& the mom downstairs
with three kids on welfare
she cries every night
with a gun in her lap.

two doors down a --
kid sits on a stoop
dealin' powdery things.

no pizza delivery man
comes by after dark.

what ....
are you afraid the --
homies might steal your rims?

pfft .... and you call
yourself a superhero!

My pleasure. Spank Batman if he shows up! :)
True dat ohana! I never saw a SuperHero in any zipcode that I ever lived in! I would have liked to see one come to Hunts Point in the South Bronx where I grew up! "Pfft"-for real! Love this! Love your new picture too!:)

Whoa, this speaks on so many levels - seeing it as directed towards a superhero (like batman) or even seeing it as directed a police officer (who is supposed to be like a superhero).
I lived in the ghetto for a number of years, and you do have to wonder why no one helps the people there - struggling to afford food, to keep a roof over their heads, dealing and using drugs and getting involved in gangs. You almost wish for a superhero to appear and help those towns, and it's sad to think that everyone just ignores it - turns a blind eye.

I really like the meaning behind this, and the structure tells the story really nice, flowing easy on the eyes.
Great job
