Dear

Dear

A Poem by Chelle
"

Dedicated to the one who was the love of my life...and my greatest heartbreak

"
You were here by my side
With twinkling hazel eyes
Dilated as they gazed at me

We had such a spark in the beginning
We held one another close
We made each other promises
We were one

Our love was something
No one could deny
It used to be us
And no one else

We could reach that special place
Just you and me together
And feel complete
Oh, so complete

But the pain of losing you
Of losing the other half that was fused
So perfectly
Has been my greatest despair
And our greatest mistake

How did we go wrong?
How did that bond between us,
the bliss,
the moments of pure joy,
simply crash and burn?

Why did we let things get so bad?
How could those exchanged smiles
and charming winks
escalate to words that should have
never been spoken?

Our love and our loss
Our hearts split apart

And yet I can't forget
The days where we
Truly were
In love

And yet I can't help but wonder
How we truly
Lost it all

Heartbreak poetry often sounds trite, but you managed to bring true emotion to this. Well written.

Wow, this piece of work hit me because I also wonder how it all went wrong with my other half. Nicely written.
