Poet Nondescript

Poet Nondescript

A Poem by J Todd Underhill

"

No regrets; No remorse,

As life will always take its course.

I have sinned that is true,

And every human tends to do.

I don’t pretend to be what I ain’t;

A bad Christian or Latter Day Saint

But I am the best version of me,

That the world has allowed to be.

There are things in this life I’d change;

Or circumstances I’d rearrange.

But we cannot turn back or unwind,

The rapid hands of father time.

So I live in the moment as I can;

And try to be a better man.

I am the poet nondescript.

For in my life there is no script.

I love the last two lines. You've done a great job at taking a life lesson that has been preached so many times before and voicing it in your own way. Every line flows nicely from the one before it, and no line feels clumsy or out of place. Other than a few small grammatical issues (which I don't usually go into much detail on unless they are very noticeable and detract from the piece significantly), this is well written. Nicely done. :)

to be aware of it, carry on, and try to be better everyday despite life's vanity. that is what truly matters in my opinion.
beautiful poem, smooth and well described.

I try that too, every single day - to live in the moment. It isn't easy. I like simple things. I think they're cool nice and, simple. your poem is that: simple.
great job friend.

The common thread in the mystique of self assessment is to weave an admirable fabric, which covers the scars and opens doors... Here, you present the naked guru with no apology, standing in the light, opening the door that has no key, that others may enter freely. Kudos.

Thoroughly enjoyed this honest look at a life lived. It is so much better to be who we are and add the best we can to it, than attempt to be something we are not. Loved the read, cheers!

you are cheating the rhyme
in the last 2 lines :)))))))))))
Christains everywhere and of every ilk make the mistake of thinking ... i have found forgiveness ..now i must be perfect ... then finding it impossible (again) try pretending ... it is the best we can do to be that "...best version of me" .. always sinful in every moment but always forgiven :) enjoyed the read and where your poem takes me todd

Nice! I love your candor and reassurance that we can always strive to be the best we can without expecting our human selves to be perfect.
