How did this happen to us,

We were the best of friends,

Laughing, playing, living without a fuss,

Yet now we have our weapons,

Our armor set up against each other,

We who were once like sister and brother,

Its been so long since we laughed together,

So long since you were once my better,

The brighter part of my life,

The one who could shield me from all the strife,

Now we stand on opposite ends,

No longer laughing as friends,

We took a chance and got close,

I took another and chose,

My choice was noble in my eyes,

But it was cruel in yours,

I did what I thought was wise,

But as I look back at all the doors,

That I had turned my back to,

All the possibilities that I said no to,

I think about what could’ve been,

I think about how I lost my friend,

All because I couldn’t see…
