Stimulation

Stimulation

A Poem by John the Baptist
"

A meditation on types of stress

"
Stimulation is a dicey
Call,
*
For get too much and you
Bounce off the walls;
*
But get too little and
You're playing the blues,
*
Like a Christmas tree
With a blown out fuse.
*
I can't tell you how
To regulate it,
*
For when a mood sets in,
It's hard to abate it,
*
But for safety's sake,
Consider these lines:
*
Either get down with
Decaf,
*
Or chuck the cheap
Wine.

this reminds me of my younger/dumber days walking home through Stanley park, from the liquor store, drunk, drinking cheap wine
thinking back, we used to enjoy it
where have those days gone

Thanks, Dave. I recall those days, too. Especially the hangovers.

I love how your poem deals with a situation you might not be crazy about, but your words don't express this in a judgmental way. Getting hooked on any kind of high is less-than-ideal, be it substances or just one's own drama (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thanks, bg. You're right, there are all kinds of addictions.
I loved the complete poem. Each set of lines. True and hard. When you go up, we must come down. Thank you my friend for sharing the outstanding poetry.

Thanks, Coyote. Yes, too many don't realize how the law of gravity affects us in more ways than one.

I agree my friend and you are welcome.
This is so true about stimulation. Too much and we are wired and too little melancholy sets in. The last lines made me chuckle.

No decaf for me that is a waste of perfectly good coffee beans lol what’s the point of no caffeine coffee.

The rot gut stuff isn’t worth the trouble it will cause. It not only tastes bad but it give you one hell of a reminder of the stupidity from the night before.

Oh I love that “ the wrath of grapes”
I’m not sure exactly what you mean by stimulation, literally speaking stimulants can be bad for you, drink some tea or seltzer, chuck the cheap wine...but if you’re speaking of mania ( bi -polar disease) that’s quite another matter....and cannot be controlled by anything except certain drugs. Stimulation has many connotations as you know,
Thanks for sharing John, always enjoy your poetry

The answer is simple, dear John......switch to well brewed tea instead! You'll have no caffeinated cravings and associated addictive ticks and you'll live longer! It's an overstimulated world we live in. You got that right! Best to find the healthiest alternative to get us through our days. Another fine meditation. 🌹

Thanks, Viktoria. I'll remember brewed tea. Mindfulness is also a good way to mitigate stress.
Haha ... or end up chucking up wine and decaf.

This was a very engaging write:) You had me smiling:)

Yes, I suppose for a website that attracts a wide variety of eccentrics, a cautionary statement like this is probably appropriate; I think what you're describing here is onset bi-polar disorder - which, considering your profession, you've likely had experience in handling.

Having, for the most part, given up cheap liquor (was never one for wine, as it didn't seem to do the job) I have to admit that I'm in no hurry to go decaf. That said, I appreciate the cautionary sentiment here regardless.

Thanks for sharing.
