understand the sentiment JD. But really too soon to tell. Meloni is not Le Pen, nor is she Trump. Italian politics is a mess and has been for my entire lifetime. Italians have not shifted hard right so much as they have turned in hopes of finding a functioning gov't. Meloni's most difficult task is going to be how she manages the hardcore fascist right of her party and partnering parties' fantasies with the hard business of righting a listing ship. Could she follow Orban or Modi? Certainly possible, but is as equally possible that she walks a path more akin to Clinton, Blair, or slightly harder view, Reagan or the Iron Lady.
People need to simply wait and watch. Italy is a functioning democracy, and as such has the right to pursue whatever path its voters opt to travel. My greater fear is peeps leap to judge before there is any reason to actually judge. As a die-hard committed liberal-social democrat, she wouldn't have been my choice, but believing in a democracy means believing in the principle of you don't always get what you want.
