Settling Down In Corsicana Texas

Settling Down In Corsicana Texas

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

Letting you go

was something that nearly killed me

it was something I needed to do

I'm just letting you know

I'm leav'n everything behind

going to hit that long hard path

gonna start living more lively

Driving through these towns

many with for sale signs

help wanted posters

our first time together haunts me

how you held on

when we dropped with the roller coasters

What we did on the old dirt road

leaving our worries on the branches

giving one another love in the cool water

in the middle of the night

Passing by Dallas

I'm tempted to turn around

going over my chances

you take everything of mine

thinking everything is fine

Corsicana is next on the map

the pecan town

stoping at a honky tonk

drinking until I turn into a clown

I'm sharing a cold one

with "Miss Corsicana"

she goes on how she won

all I know is that she won with her beauty

She's great and nutty

I'm stay'n a while

finding a town

with a girl that's down to earth

No, I've already forgot about you

all what you did

I'm settled with "Miss Corsicana"

she's sweeter than a banana

wild as the Mustang

free spirits, we become

She loves me, I love her

settle down we plan

settled down we are

in Corsicana, Texas.

This is my kind of poetry. A story with a happy ending. I like the Texas tales. I lived 6 years in Texas. Enjoyed every moment. Thank you for the excellent poem.
