2 in the Morning

2 in the Morning

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

It's 2 in the morning
These feelings I've kept down
About us finally coming back
These songs soothing the pain

Memories of the life we lived
Come to me, make me think
Was it true or just a lie
Was it written in ink

You seem to have moved on
Without much thought
I wonder how it could be
But now you're gone

It's 2 in the morning
I'm thinking about the first time
We stayed up and talked
We were different then

It's killing me from within
It knows no end

These songs make me bleed
They numb the love with pain
Maybe soon we'll be freed
To leave just a blood stain

This is the final time
We say goodbye
It just didn't work out
We both had our doubt

It's 2 in the morning
My love for you is dying
It's true, I'm not lying
And there'll be mourning

Here at 2 in the morning

This is good.. Morning does come

That appears to be a shared time for such a process: 2 in the morning. Very moving with the gentle, periodic repetition, which brings that feeling of a recurring pain. Very effective expression in a poem. Thanks for sharing. Frederick.
