An Abecedarian Halloween Party

An Abecedarian Halloween Party

A Poem by Joyce S. Greene
"

'tis the night when ghosts and goblins frolic at the ball . . .

"

a terrifying night

believe me, you will see

cats and ugly witches

dance wickedly with glee

every ghost and goblin

frolicking at the ball

gets into big trouble

hightails it to the hall

inky clouds of bats screech

joust with one another

kept outside, the banshees

looking mad, just hover

monsters dressed in tuxes

needling their victims, wink

open up blood vessels

pour each other a drink

querulous fat demons

responding to rude jives

salute their closest friend

toss Satan some high fives

unhappy dragons hiss

viciously spread their wings

when our Harry Potter

xylophone pinging, sings:

you denizens of hell

zoom off to where you dwell

Halloween is my favorite holiday. It's fun to see excited kids in their costumes trick or treating. It's the one night I can be the biggest kid of all.

I thoroughly enjoy Halloween and this was a welcome fun read to get my mind thinking of decorations, parties, and ghoulish scary scenes. Loved it!

Thanks, Frieda. It was fun to do, though a bit of a challenge.
Halloween is probably one of my favorite times of year...I love the lore and the tales that surround it; also how so many of these historical accounts are taken out of context. You've got all the right imagery in this one, from the bats to the demons, this is Halloween on overdrive :) Nicely written...very fun.

Sounds like my kind of party. From joining in on the fun to being ostracized to making the best of the situation. You have rounded them up and spread them about most charmingly. Excellent write Sharon, I'll put in a good word with Drac.

So sorry Joyce, am now exspecting same from Sharon. Two cafes at once and thanks for the humor.
My goodness, the calendar pages just ruffled by my psyche....is Halloween that close? :) Whimsy and eeriness walk hand in hand through your well written lines. The rhyming is spectacular, Joyce! I loved the imagery of monsters dressed in tuxedos. This is the sort of poetry I truly enjoy reading. Each line flows easily into the next and the vocabulary is well chosen. A great job, Joyce. Hee hee screeched the good witch
Well good? hoped she.
Either way
