India's tryst with destiny

India's tryst with destiny

A Poem by Jvl narasimharao

The whole world  was  sleeping

Miraculously India came into being

It was the result of 300 years toiling

 The Consequence of Martyrs’ Sacrificing

on 15th August,1947 Jawaharlal  made a historic speech

Freedom came to every Indian’s reach

It was really a tryst with destiny

The British really started to shake after the Sepoy Mutiny

The British looted India’s incalculable treasure

Beyond anybody’s measure

They massacred those who fought for Independence

And made life for the patriotic Indian very tense

But Gandhiji  and other patriots never lost their sense

Non-violence and truth were their very essence

The British are not totally to blame

The few  good things they did, I want to name

They built wonderful dams, rooted out many social evils

And constructed Railway tracks, enacted good laws

The tri-coloured Indian flag was hoisted with pride at Red fort

The real Justice was restored in the Indian supreme court

Jawaharlal , in his button hole, wore a beautiful red rose

300 years of imperialistic tyranny came to a close

It is not enough if we hoist the Indian flag every year

Every Indian must fight against corruption without any fear

From every sufferer’s eye, We have to wipe out every tear

Only then can we make our road to glory very clear

I like the way you used your rhymes effortlessly, while still keeping true the real historical background of the poem.
Those familiar with Indian history will have a major clue on what you are saying, and those not familiar with Indian history, there is an insight to be gained.

I believe that poets should be the voice of the masses, to speak for the voiceless; and you have demonstrated that here.

WELL DONE!

A wonderful history lesson one wouldn't find in dry text books. Relatable and well penned the human condition we share. Thank you for posting this.

This fight seems to be all around the world. Here it was the American Indian, then the slaves, the African Americans, and now the Hispanic. Then there is the split among the haves and the have nots. These old flags represent history. In our country they are banishing the Confederate Flag. Why? Children need to learn all of this in their history classes so they might make their country stronger. Our pasts help to make all of this world's future. Loved the way you wrote this. You are a talented scribe. Valentine

India fight is the same for the USA too.
"It is not enough if we hoist the Indian flag every year

From every sufferer’s eye, We have to wipe out every tear

Corruption is everywhere. Here in the USA. Contractors receive 500 billion yearly from the USA. Is war a business? We waste more money on war without having a war. I understand the poem. All of us must stand for the right things and force the leader to do the right things. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.
