Smoking with the Devil

Smoking with the Devil

A Poem by Jake Staffeld

You're invisible

To everyone

Long since dead

As the Hearse takes you home

To your final bed

Might as well sell your soul

To the Devil for a night

You're so wrong

To think you can trick me

You're bones will dance for me

You'll be relegated to mantels and Halloween

Isn't it nice?

Not to get advice

For the after-life

From your religions

And creeds

Some will be joyous

That you've dissappeared

The few that mourn

Won't for long

You'll be no Casper

Closer to a demon

As you burn

With pity for yourself

Welcome to the Garden

Holding cells are all this is

Snakes are easy to see

But it's too late

You're already gone for good

Smoking with the Devil

This is really great man! Strong start and an even stronger ending!

Some people smoking with the Devil could be entertaining and could have a good conversation. I like the directness and the desire of this poem. A very good ending to a excellent poem. Thank you.

I actually really enjoyed this. It has beautiful rhythm and a darkish topic. Entrapped me from the first lines. Great Job, Xx
