No Tomorrow

No Tomorrow

A Poem by James Bonner

I promise you that

I am doing the best that I can,

and though some days,

they will last longer than others--

this day, with you,

it went way too fast;

standing on this roof

fighting the four winds,

staring up at a nightly sky.

It was here, I dreamt-

of my own Hutterite mile.

sit and listen,

no one knew me

and I designed this

semblance of the badlands,

as it breaks.

But there’s still a little bit of your taste.

I felt then like I was Falling,

bright and early

going nowhere

and lay there looking up towards,

the sun just now climbing over;

and all around me were familiar faces.

I dreamt I was an architect

quietly whispering,

as the people run in circles,

reminding him that if there-

was any point to believe in us.

It’s not hard to fall.

I felt a raindrop-

land on my neck,

and took a step back,

turning, I looked up at a cloudless sky.

Just a cheshire Moon,

hanging low,

grinning, knowingly,

and I took a running start.

I don't usually write poetry. I was sitting here listening to Pandora, and felt like writing- this was largely inspired by the different songs that came on.

Some fresh perspectives here.

Hutterite mile? As in the religious Hutterite people?

I might suggest a couple of tiny edits, but enjoyed this piece.

I don't usually read poetry, but this was really well done. It was beautifully written and I like the idea. I especially love the very last line.

This was beautiful and full of sorrow and lonliness, it made me think of an angel crying as he turned his back and stopped believing that the world could change, that man would stop making so many mistakes.
Exquisite piece, I was surprised to read that you don't write poetry very often.
