I Wish

This poem is about my father, who passed away a few years back. I miss him dearly

I had to get better at writing

so I could express how I felt

to a world that seems lost without you

how I wish things were different

wish different cards had been dealt

my mind is floundering and askew

without you

I wish I 

could get to the next plane of existence

I wish I

could go there suffering no resistance

But I know

that I have to stay here at home

I had to get better at fighting

so I could battle myself

for control of the emotions that threatened to overwhelm

how I wish they would dissipate

or stay on the shelf

it feels like my heart is threatening to fail

without you

I wish I

that I can't let go of home
