Moonlight Dancing

Moonlight Dancing

A Chapter by My Fair Lady
"

For Jessica

"

Three a.m.

Couldn’t sleep

Restless night

Summer heat

Creep out quietly

So no one should wake

Take a stroll

By the lake

No lantern to carry

No need tonight

Take the well worn path

Lit by moonlight

Senses heightened

Brilliance in the shadows

Walking softly as I go through

Floral fragrant meadow

In the distance

I cant help but see

A fairy girl dancing

How can this be?

Rub my eyes

Must be a dream

Pinch myself awake

Caught in a dream

Recognize the shadow

Smile spread across my face

My own lovely daughter

Dancing in the moonlight with beauty and grace

Walk a little more quickly

To greet her I go

Change my mind quickly

Step into the shadow

Knowing her heart is as beautiful

as her captivating figure.

Think about being her mother

And the joy I have had watching her mature.

Watch as she shamelessly dances

Decide to retreat

When out of the darkness

I saw him, her lover she did meet

Back to the house in quiet reflection

I silently tread

She’s no longer a little girl

A beautiful woman instead

A wonderful piece that speaks volumes of letting go...a thing we dads are not very good at...we want to keep our little girls little and innocent forever...I guess thats because we know...as long as there is no suitor...we'll always be number one. lol

Such vivid imagery. I loved the scenery you set up. It flows nicely. An interesting poem about being a parent and the hardships of letting your child go as it grows. I enjoyed reading this.

I think that the hardest part to being a mother is letting your child go as you realize that they have become the adult. I have heard that as a parent we are to raise children to let them go. In that realization (I learned that the hard way) I could relax and appreciate that my child is a beautiful woman who was raised to be strong in mind and heart. I loved your poem.
