Winds of Change

Winds of Change

A Chapter by My Fair Lady
"

Surviving Domestic Violence

"

Huddled with the children

Waiting out the never ending storm

Head down, quiet

Waiting

Listen to it rage

Like foul language that does not fall softly

On innocent ears

Tearing away at the strongest seams

In quiet hour of retrospect

I look at all that remains

Splintered pieces

Shattered glass

Years of progress blown

Into neighbors gossip yards

Like linens from the line

Stuck on barbed wire fences

I called for the winds to change

Stood up in the eye of the storm

Knowing I too could be consumed by its rage

Then sudden silence

Unfamiliar with the noise of silence

Unprepared for the physical ache

Unaware of all the damage done

As we huddled there together…

Calling for the winds to change

it is a strange place at first~ that sudden quiet~ and then as the memory bleeds out through the stages of human healing~ the sound that will come to replace it will be like music because it will be your own~

and the cold reality it brings . find warmth in your words .

The authenticity of your experience, the bluntness of the true foulness of it all is as always told in your inimitable voice. The reality and discomfort with peace in the aftermath - the sudden absence of the constant turmoil - could not be depicted any better than you have here.

This is human, this is Womanly, this is excellence.

difficult to imagine, more so to understand. Key word is "survive".
"years of progress blown...." very effective stanza.
