An Empty Shell

An Empty Shell

A Poem by Vera

The Empty Shell

A body that moves and breathes, yet it does not live

Once full of energy and hope but now it only shambles on

It huddles into its corner to hide from the light yet it is still afraid of the dark

Where did this being's happiness and motivation go, how did it lose its love of life?

Did they disappear due to age or because its mind was on a path of personal destruction

This empty shell shows all that it should but behind its facade it feels nothing except sorrow

Can this shell be filled once again with its old life, or will it forever be stuck in its personal hell?

I enjoyed the form, starting succinctly and slowingly expanding in its domain of torment. I like the phrase "shamble on". Remember, the being has "left" the shell! Nice work.

Thank you I'm really glad you liked it. :)
This poem has lots of depth. I get the feeling I could read it over and over and get something new from it every time. It is relateable and your word choice makes it work well. Good job!
