Amber and Infrared

Amber and Infrared

A Poem by Jared Orlando

Loving you put a
Fire in my belly
Like atop the wooden stave of a
Wanderer in the forest
I would carry it with me
My chest beaming
The insides of my mouth
Glowing
Amber and infrared
I would parade this
Beautiful light inside me
Through the streets
Like a luminescent celebration
But then
Without a warning
The winter winds came and
You became suffocating
And while I was sleeping
While I wasn’t looking
You extinguished me
And now that
The flames are gone
I cannot stay warm
And without it
I cannot see
