Little Old Man

Little Old Man

A Poem by J.R Schlievert

Little old man

Your dissolved in your own bitterness
Cant love
Cant feel
Push others away

Little old man

You think you’ve seen everything
grazed every aspect of life and death
Life is a donation, you say
But death is a delay

Little old man

The ebony hat you wear
And the cold wooden bench you sit on
A so-called Raven perched on your shoulder
But all I see is a Swallow, alighting on you

Little old man

dangling from a rope
In a befoul, shallow, hotel
First person to see him was an old maid doing her daily rounds
And the last person to see him was a 23 year old clerk

Little old man

So quiescent in the black coffin
A priest, holding a book that the old man loathed with definite ambition
And he read out of it
Gods little joke, last thing you will hear is my words

Little old man……….
No more

This really encapsulates what some of the elderly go through
when life's thrown them a curved ball. The first three verses
superbly sets the mood & tone of a life, forlorn ... Very moving...
Lots of imagery... An a touch of humor in the end keeps
LOM from being a complete bumper, man .....
Excellent work!

Strangely enough, I like this! (And that isn't meant as an insult; I just usually don't like the idea of old people dying off, haha).

It does bother me how some elderly people think that the world owes them something; perhaps I am very immature for saying so, but it doesn't seem like anyone has that right. I definately respect the elderly, and understand that they tend to have alot more life experience/wisdom, but I really can't imagine myself being bitter and resentful like some elderly folks I know.

That said, I really like the part about "God's little joke;" ironic, no? Great poem, very entertaining :)

Dude... you killed the old man. (in the poem. since you made him die... haha?) *shakes head* What did he do to you? Nawn. It was nice, a distraction. So... I can do whatever? *dances around room like a crazy*

It was enjoyable. not the happiest of happiest of things (you did kill the guy) but still, it wasn't depressing either. At least... not to me, and therefore, I label it as enjoyable.
