Scenes of Quietude

Scenes of Quietude

A Poem by Java Bum

I walk with you, bathing in the sun's rays

A serene breeze ruffles my clothes as I lean

Against the trunk of a massive tree, I find shade

A surreal image filled with the mysterious songs of nearby birds

All burned into my mind, echoing

One hand resides in a pocket while the other

Seeks comfort from a filter-less cigarette

Which still burns even now as we don't speak

It's not that harsh words were passed

Or that this wondrous silence shouldn't"or couldn't be disturbed

But more as if we don't have to speak to be heard

Yet that we have a sacred ground that neither

Is willing to cross to come to terms with the other

Squinting my eyes, my daze is broken

I cast you a thought-filled glance

And you give me a knowing look

Damn you. You did it again

Saw through me with a thought

Slipped through my defenses with a casual smile

Damn you

Damn you

And so, with that, I turn back to the scenery, silent

Because you did it again

Causing me to remain in the void with an absence of words

And roll my withered cigarette that has long since died
