![]() Chapter 1-BitternessA Chapter by Charlie Lens
Charlie looked at the clock which was ticking closer to the end of the last day of school. This was marking the end of 8th grade and therefore the end of middle school. Charlie was exited to get home so he could relax and celebrate his 14th birthday. As the clock ticked closer to the end of school, Charlie lost sense of his surroundings and got lost in his thoughts.
There was a cake one meter high made out of ice cream. It was coated with chocolate and whipped cream. It had 10 layers , each layer having a different fruit topping. On the top sat a plastic torch that was lit. The flames were in the shape of the number 14. Jutting out of the sides were torches the spewed caramel that fell into a giant bowl below the cake that collected the caramel and shot it up into the center of the cake, enriching all the ice cream. His mother smiled at him and said, "It's all yours, Charlie." Charlie was a bit startled and jolted out of his daydream. "Wha?" "I said, it's all yours. Please answer the question," said Mr. Rolex, Charlie's science teacher. Charlie started to sweat. "Could you please repeat the question? Mr. Rolex sighed and pulled out a pink pad. "Let this be a lesson to you, Charlie. Just because it is the last day of school, it doesn't mean you get the day off." He walked over to Charlie and gave him the detention slip. "What?!" exclaimed Jax, Charlie's best friend. "You're giving him degention on the last day of school, his final day of middle school, AND his birthday?! You're insane!" Charlie shot Jax a dirty look. "If you like I can give you a detention as well," said Mr. Rolex cooly, pulling out the pink pad again. "It would be better than dithcing my friend because he has deep thoughts!" "Deep thoughts are nothing in geometry. All you need is to memorize and succeed. Imagination is worthless. It's a waste of time. Children should focus on their grades instead of stupid little thoughts that will get you nowhere in life." "YOU'RE THE STUPID ONE WHO WILL GET NOWHERE IN LIFE! YOU'RE LEADING US KIDS DOWN THE WRONG PATH!" "If that's what you think, then here," said Mr. Rolex, handing Jax his detention slip. "Now you can join your little friend and have a playdate with him in the detention room where you can dream about unicorns," he said in a sing-songy voice. The class snickered. "Don't think I can't give all of you detentions." The class fell silent. Noboy wanted to get on Mr. Rolex's bad side. © 2017 Charlie Lens |
