This was suggested by something that was popular among the teens when I was young, and was meant to get a reaction from my granddaughter. The second piece was my son's reaction.
I stuck my finger in my nose
And scraped it all around
I took it out and studied it
To see what I had found
I straightened up and struck a pose
To show what I had got
I thought I’d find the finger bare
But in the end, it’s not.

The ancients lived in caves,
and we honor where they've been
By finding caves within us,
to stick our fingers in.
I appreciate the playful and humorous tone of your poem, and how it pokes fun at our human tendencies to indulge in some less-than-graceful behaviors. The imagery of sticking your finger in your nose and examining what you find is both vivid and relatable, and the ending twist of finding something unexpected adds an extra layer of humor.
I also appreciate the way you use this somewhat silly scenario to draw a larger connection to human history and the ways in which we honor our ancestors. The final lines of the poem, "The ancients lived in caves, and we honor where they've been / By finding caves within us, to stick our fingers in," are both clever and thought-provoking, and add a deeper layer of meaning to the poem.
Overall, your poem is a fun and engaging read, and I appreciate the way it uses humor to explore some deeper themes. Keep up the good work!
