All Empty Words

An attack on how people use sorrow or fear on social media for the advancement of receiving sympathy

Show your face

Air-brushed and glorious to the world

We all claim to be different 

But the truth that we seek

Is wearing black doesn't make you unique

Now take another photo

But only in the right light

Erase the last of your flaws

We're just broken in real life

I'm sure the cryptic messages are just empty words

Who really cares for any trend?

Or they're just some lyrics you may have heard

We're all much uglier

Than we'd like to pretend

Explain your emotions

Tears pre-shed ready for sympathy

And a token morose gesture

But the truth that we seek

Is that sorrow doesn't make you unique

Now write down your hopes

And shows us all your fears

You don't really want to run

You never wanted to disappear

I'm sure the cryptic messages are just empty words

So where do we go now

What do we think of the black out

Write it down for the future

Just express your sorrows to the rest

There are two ways of reading this poem. Is someone is hoping that "the sympathy vote" will give them an advantage in a competitive sense, or is it a method of carthesis when there is no physical contact to offer advice.
I often feel that many poets use the latter reason, as they are unable to express their anxieties in tangible language. I find a lot of poems incomprehensible when written in this vein, butvthe loss may be mine in not being able to interpret them..
This is not a critisism of your poem, which was extremely well written,but the ambiguity of perception that we can all suffer from.
