Reminiscing

Transformation to womanhood.

As I sit here Readying myself for your night I can't help but see you beside me Your reflection, not that of a young woman, But of the infant that lit up my day With a smile and a wink of dimples; Of the toddler that beguiled me  With the blink of her eyes and a pout; Of the little girl who begged for makeup, Then ran me ragged with tomboyish energy; Of a young lady regaling me with every injustice While spouting a wisdom that surpasses her years. I see the teen who always has time for a hug And a heartfelt "I love you," even when busy. As I stare into the glass and see the past, Your future radiates brightly, Superimposed by my mind's eye. Your faith and courage go before you Pushed by a competitive, yet caring heart, Tempered by patience, supported by those Who believe in your beauty of spirit. And I hold a sense of pride in that beauty Knowing that I had a small part  In the transformation that is womanhood.

Thank you Eve. This is years old, so I'm not sure why I added it here today, other than I must be feeling maternal..LOL
Actually I occasionally like to go back and look at the really old stuff just to compare them in tone and style. I find I repeat some themes.

You are so welcome, Jaycee - a truly lovely piece - the upcoming holiday seems to bring us women to our nurturing selves I think. I also repeat themes quite often I found - it must indicate an emotional attachment of some kind, or sensitive issues for us. It does very often inspire my best work, which I accept gratefully...

This is so sweet. I hope to write a poem for my nieces. That's years away yet. They are 11 and 9. :)

Melinda, write them some nonsense fun things now. This is my oldest niece and goddaughter, as you can tell we are very close. My oldest daughter is actually a bit jealous of her, much like I was of my older sister.

Yeah I write for them now. It's sweet you are so close to your niece. I'm the same with mine.

My sister is quite a bit older than me and her kids are almost like my own. I actually lived with them when I went to college because my schedule worked well with the day care hours when my sis was working out of town. They later spent most summers with me.
It was great to be so close to them when I was not ready for a family of my own. I also got a lot of practice in. :-)

I'm in a wheelchair with Cerebral Palsy so I can't have kids. So I love them as my own. I even witnessed their births. :) I also have a nephew who is almost 3.

Well my niece loves having a second mom especially when the first one makes her crazy...lol. This one's dad is paraplegic and was when my sister met him. She was a suprise..doctors said it wouldn't happen. I'm very glad it did. I'm glad you told me about the CP. It doesn't seem to slow your commenting down.
