Birth of a Poem

Birth of a Poem

A Poem by JayceeC

A plethora of words

bubble up effervescently

in rhapsodic, evanescent waves,

disappearing before grasped.

They play dulcet tones

wrapping through

mind’s background with

felicity and growing energy.

A talisman…

Get ready.

It comes.

The idyllic chrysalis

matures into something more…

Something as radiant as sapphires,

Yet, more alive.

A discomfort appears--

labor pains

for each word

each break.

With a push of thought,

it is born,

bringing joy,

comfort,

to those who cherish it.

Jan, I don't care about the challenge nor the technical aspects of a write. I care about what it says and how it makes me feel. And, this is F%**#@ing Awesome! I am NO literary genius but I know what I like when I read it and I love this :) It's full of vivid metaphorical imagery and wonderfully, creatively, creative! Into my library :)

Sounds like a Starlite Café challenge. I've participated in many of those exercises. It was very clever how you used childbirth as a metaphorical basis for the poem; from anticipation to preparation to the poem's genesis and arrival. VERY nicely done!! take care...dan

Cleverly, graphically, gloriously metaphorical! You have both the skill and imagination to write two or more poems at a time, wrapping a theme within another.. tis more than metaphor to me, more a multi layered flight of language. Maybe that's what 'metaphor' means, maybe I'm just muddled in reading a fine poem!

Wow, that review stunned me this morning. Thank you for the kind words. Jan
I have children also. But as far as the whole birthing process goes I was only a close witness. I will say that labor seemed easier the second and third times around. So from that point of view I can relate. It's only when we stop writing for a long time when it becomes hard again.
I did read that this was a challenge poem. Well done. CD

I like how you described the birth of writing.
"With a push of thought,
it is born,
bringing joy,
comfort,
to those who cherish it."
Words are appreciated by true readers and are the babies of the writer. Thank you dear Poet for sharing the excellent poetry.
