"Sunflower Memories and Watermelon Dreams"

"Sunflower Memories and Watermelon Dreams"

A Poem by Jeanne Broome
"

I wrote this poem for a friend and mother of 3. Her youngest son was best friends with my 3rd son. When her oldest son ..only 19 died tragically, she needed to get away...and invited me to her family cottage. The little yellow cottage was on Little Hills

"

 "Sunflower Memories and Watermelon Dreams"

Our Sweet Yellow Cottage

Here on Little Hills Lake

Holds so many Memories.. and Dreams

Both small and great.....

Of Hummingbirds and Morning light

Dragonflies and Summer nights...

Children's hugs....A warm embrace

A Getaway...A Healing place...

Of Family love...Time can't erase

Where things move at a gentle pace...

Reflecting back....A look ahead

A quiet prayer...A quilted bed..

Our legacy of love.. you see...

Is gathered here so perfectly

A Sunflower Memory...

A Watermelon Dream...

Very sweet and homey. It reflects a well loved family life and happiness. Well written.

Jeanne, I can very easily see this work happily displayed on the wall of every home. Its companions would be "Footprints" and Joshua 24:15, all three ready to great welcome guests. There is warmth in this place you describe. It creates this sense of longing in the reader to want to be there and to experience those emotions. Very, very nice.

You provide a simple pleasantness to your poems that is quite appealing. "Sunflower memories" and "watermelon dreams"--- yes, I'd like to have some those, please. It's nice that you were able to give your friend some comfort in her time of need.

There really is a peaceful, healing feeling to this as well as a soft, reminiscent feeling. It's a warm poem that touches my heart. I loved it. =)
