Swift Giff

Swift Giff

A Poem by Pure Hope
"

Another in the drama/mystery alphabet poem series. N for noose.

"

Dust settled in the dirty courtroom-
the gavel was on its way down,
Ole 'Swift Giff' Gifford heard his verdict,
packed tight, the room made not a sound.

Judge "Hang 'Em" Hanover presiding;
the trial felt summer's hot lust,
not from a love soured and sullied,
but of the town's Bank and Trust.

More money than Giff imagined,

he almost got away too,

but one man stood in the path of escape;
Sheriff Ledgut had his job to do.

In the shooting melee that followed,

Giff was off in his normal game,

a teller of no real consequence,
got hit and died all from bad aim.

So tomorrow morning the judge ordered,

and the noose is already set,
Swift Giff will be swinging as the sun rises,

judge gave him what he deserved to get.
