Walk Of Shame

Walk Of Shame

A Poem by Jenny Davis

So I make my way out today
and find myself a' wandering...
Past little trees, a hay fever sneeze
and sights that are astounding.

Through bloodshot eyes from exercise
and things they recommend, to offset depression,
a quiet confession, with bills in hand to send.

I see a truck, just my luck,
idling in a cloud of black, I cuss and fuss,
covered in disgust and decide to head on back.

But first I spy some mud in the eye
of a boy 'bout two or three, who cries and cries
without a disguise of who he just might be.

He's a homeless child, born bad and wild,
or so that's what they say, yet I muster a smile
and give 'em a pile of coins I could've used, but hey.

There's some with less, what a mess,
I see they got you too, but why not share
and don't compare when asked what did you do.

'Cause it ain't right, to expose your plight,
be silent in your tasks, the only Man who has a plan,
is aware- if not He'll ask.

Gettin' on, it's almost dawn,
where did the time get thrown, it takes awhile
to walk in style when reaping what the world has sown.

Such a simple message that we all need Jenny. The gentle reminder of how thankful each of us should be for our blessings and how when we think we have it bad, all we need to do is look on the other side of the fence. It's the simple things that mean so much...the small acts of kindness that we often overlook like the pile of coins you gave the little guy. When we give we receive back so much more than we ever thought possible.

I could feel the struggle with your allergies (bloodshot eyes) as you walked outside probably getting ready to hop in your car to mail your bills. Just an ordinary-run of the mill day-but then you saw the homeless boy and had an opportunity to touch him through a small act of kindness. Has the ability to change an ordinary day into something extraordinary.

You must have a teaching gift because your writing always has a special message to impart. Thanks for your diligence here on the Cafe. You are a blessing...

God Bless You, Carole

Loved this one Jenny - the rhyming scheme is perfect for this piece- as it creates that feel of ambling along. It is a fact that no matter how bad you think life is treating you- someone always is worse off. I loved the part about giving the coins, even though you needed them as well. great write as well as a great message.

*hugs*

Wow Jenny this is truly amazing... first off the rhyming is awesome but the message is greater... no matter how bad we have it there are people worse off and we need to help those in greater need sometimes cause it is always the right thing to do.
