Poor Amy Marie Must Go Free

Poor Amy Marie Must Go Free

A Poem by Jerry Ables

Poor Amy Marie sits in a cell
to which she's been sentenced
just for feeling anything she does,
instead of always waiting for command
from those who just want to float on the cloud
that every little thing she does in life
scores another notch in their belts
because they "care enough to teach her!"
She tries her very best to do right on her own,
and all she gets for her trouble is cold, angry words.
Poor Amy Marie sits in a prison
not of her own manufacturing.
It's just that she's had the misfortune
of being with too many family and friends
with many different thoughts and ideas
and the common bond of thinking
that their every opinion is scientific law.
What she needs now is people who care enough
to get their facts straight before trying to teach her,
that they may offer her escape to true knowledge.
Poor Amy Marie sits in a cage
manufactured by experience with so many
who'll twist everything to their own advantage
just so they can walk loud and proud
that nothing will ever be their fault.
You should see the raindrops in her eyes
from the dreaded storms of regretting
things she didn't even do wrong
while others get to sit and watch a parade
built completely on their own fantasies.
Poor Amy Marie must go free
before the warden destroys her ability
to function in this old crazy world.
She needs someone who'll be sure
they know the whole truth in her situation
before trying to give her their two cents.
She needs someone who'll care enough
to help her come out of her shell.
She needs someone who won't gloat,
but guide her gently in the right path.
Poor Amy Marie must go free
from the groundless idea that nature
centers its every single law on wanting
to declare her guilty of simply being Amy Marie
and of having true thoughts and feelings,
instead of being merely a robot
that can't function without someone
to program its every single move,
for such self-loathing ideology
is no way for anyone to live.
Poor Amy Marie must go free
from those who'll only wish her joy
when she's doing like they'd do,
and when her mind works to the letter
of how their own minds do.
Poor Amy Marie must go free
from those who imprison themselves
by longing to see themselves
in everyone they meet.
Who will go with me to set her free?

Thought provoking words here. Good use of repetition. Some people have become robotic...sad really. Lydi**
