Fool

Fool

A Poem by J.A.N

I still remember when you told me
"Everyone wants to see you fall"
You said you'd be there for me
Through it all

I remember when I was on the edge
You were holding my hand
Telling me
"Everyone just wants to see you fall"
I cried when you said it was so
I didn't want it to be the truth
I was a fool

Now I see the lies
I see it all play out like a scatched film
Yes; I was on the edge
Yes; you where holding my hand
Yes; you told me
"Everyone just wants to see you fall"

So, were you one?
One, of
everyone
You never said you'd be there to catch me
You never said you'd pull me back up when I started to fall
I was a fool

You let me fall
You let me fall
You stood back
And watched it all

I WAS A FOOL

Parts of this poem almost seem like a song. The end had music in it.

The way I interpret it, what story is evoked in my mind, is a destructive relationship/friendship in which one person preys on the low self esteem and self doubts of another, and by doing so propels the very destruction they warned the speaker of to begin with.

We are all fools.

First of all, thanks for the comment :)

You wrote that you wish you could write all your feelings down like that, but to me it seems like you do. This poem is so sad but so beautiful at the same time. I've seen so many friendships like this...first time I read a poem about it.

The pain of being let down, abused trust and rejection oozes out of this poem. I agree with Akroma it does have a musical feel to it and it wouldn't take much work to turn it into a song. You really do know pain at the deepest level. It shows so clearly in your work.
